July 1, 2025Holidays
Our service users have been enjoying holidays over the past two months. We had to take into account people’s preferences and needs ensuring that everyone’s holidays were person centered and tailored to the individuals. One had a special, once-in-a-lifetime trip to Malta, this has been an aspiration for the service user as Malta is where her family history and heritage is. Another service user also fulfilled an aspiration by holidaying in Jamaica, they visited previously years ago and enjoyed it so much they have always wanted to go back. Another enjoyed a relaxing break at a lovely caravan park in Devon and the rest soaked up the sun in Tenerife. These trips offer many good points: they boost well-being and independence, create opportunities for social connection, and lead to wonderful memories. We’re delighted everyone had such a positive experience.
Genealogy
We have been working alongside two of our service users to find out more about their families and history. One service user was thrilled to find extensive background information on their family history. They managed to get confirmation that they had 14 brothers and sisters. Even more exciting, we received a lead on a nephew which we were not originally aware of, which we are now following up on to expand their family tree even further. Our other service user involves someone who had never met their mother and has no next of kin. Through research, we were able to confirm their mother’s name and, incredibly, discovered they have a sister. The search is now on to find their sister and hopefully connect these long-lost siblings.Open Day
Airthrie Homes hosted a Professional’s Open Day on 9th July 2025 showcasing our supported living service and the valuable services we offer to the community. This presented a wonderful opportunity for professionals to explore our facilities and meet our dedicated team and engage with service users to understand the unique environment we provide. With the assistance of our excellent service users and staff team, we had presentations, Q&A sessions, and guided tours throughout the day.
