Welcome to our first articles of the year, we have many things planned over the year and would like to share some of these with you.
This year Airthrie will be continuing our work with Rix and the University of East London, 4 of our service users are now taking part as co-researchers in projects with Rix. Furthermore, we are looking to provide our service to more service users as our new property, Roding Lane, is open and the first service user moved in mid January. Lastly, our service users are working on further improving their personal independence including improving on their cooking skills and other skills they would like to expand on through the use of adult learning service courses
Rix & University of East London
As mentioned above, Airthrie are still working closely with the University of East London and Rix Media on both Multi-me and numerous projects where our service users are actively involved as co-researchers.
The first project ‘Connecting Policy Makers with People with Learning Disabilities An Inclusive Citizen Science Curriculum towards Digital Financial Inclusion’ revolves around digital finance and inclusion and communicating this to policy makers on what they would like future money to look like. So far, this project has included a trip to the Bank of England Museum and various meetings to discuss personal experiences with money.
The second project ‘Living Well As You Get Older’ which covers healthy living for people with a learning disability or difference. The aim of this project is to develop an accessible training programme including fun, art based activities which will then be trialed with people with a learning disability or difference.
Daily Affirmations
Our service users are practicing daily affirmations twice a day. They start with one in the morning, which helps them have a positive start and plan their day. Then, at the end of the day, they think about their achievements. This helps them feel good about what they’ve done, and staff and their housemates celebrate those achievements with them.
By thinking on behalf of our clients every daywe anticipate what they want provide what they need build lasting relationships. These are the concepts that shape our distinctive culture & differentiate us from others.
