2026

Welcome to our first articles of the year, everyone at Airthrie Homes is excited to welcome 2026 with positivity and commitment to supporting our service users.

The start of the year is a great opportunity to focus on health and wellbeing. Many articles highlight the significance of activities for growth and the contributions made from staff. These are the main principles at Airthrie Homes, which guide everything we do to ensure our service users feel supported.

As we move forward into 2026, Airthrie Homes is excited to keep building on what we do. We’re looking at new ways to create more opportunities for engagement, expand our activities and continue supporting both our staff and service users. We hope to make 2026 a positive year for everyone.

Supporting Health and Wellbeing

As mentioned above, health and wellbeing are a key focus in the care sector. Research emphasises the importance of maintaining physical activity and healthy routines for individuals receiving care and support.

At Airthrie Homes, we actively encourage service users to participate in activities that promote wellbeing and development. This can be done by taking part in group activities, spending time outdoors and engaging in hobbies and interest. These activities have an important role in supporting emotional wellbeing and connection with others.

Celebrating Cultures

March and April have been an inclusive time here at Airthrie Homes, as we came together to recognise and celebrate a range of cultural and religious festivals including Easter, Vaisakhi, and Eid. These celebrations provided valuable opportunities not only for enjoyment but also learning, inclusivity and shared experiences.

At Airthrie Homes we place strong importance on promoting equality, diversity, and respect for all backgrounds. Over the months our service users were encouraged to attend different events to explore the significance behind each festival, encouraging awareness and appreciation of different cultures and beliefs. For Vaisakhi, some service users were introduced to the traditions and meanings behind the festival which celebrates equality, new beginnings and community. Activities included listening to music, learning about the significance of the festival and exploring traditional foods. These events opened up conversations about faith and identity and cultural heritage. For those who observe Eid and Easter, this was a great opportunity to celebrate their faith and for others it was a chance to learn and take part in a supportive and inclusive environment.

These cultural and religious celebrations continue to play a significant role in enhancing wellbeing and togetherness by promoting a positive and inclusive community where everyone feels valued and respected. This also helps build confidence and communication skills for our service users as they feel respected by everyone based on their beliefs and traditions. This helped to foster a genuine sense of belonging and mutual respect at Airthrie Homes.

Holiday

We are excited to share details of our upcoming one-week trip to Sardinia, Italy, which service users and staff have been preparing for over recent months. Service users have been actively involved in the planning process, helping to make decisions about activities, discussing budgets, organising packing lists, and deciding what they would most like to experience during their time away.

The preparation process has provided valuable opportunities for service users to build communication, teamwork, and decision-making skills through group discussions and collaborative planning sessions. There has been a real sense of anticipation and excitement throughout Airthrie Homes, with everyone sharing what they are most looking forward to during the trip.

The visit to Sardinia promises to be both enjoyable and beneficial for the overall health and wellbeing of individuals with learning disabilities. The island’s beautiful scenery, peaceful beaches, and relaxing atmosphere offer an ideal environment to help reduce anxiety and promote emotional wellbeing. Activities such as swimming, walking, exploring nature, and experiencing local culture can support physical fitness while encouraging social interaction and confidence-building.

Experiencing a new culture and environment can also help stimulate cognitive development, promote independence, and create lasting positive memories. Staff have carefully considered the individual needs and preferences of each service user to ensure the trip is safe, enjoyable, inclusive, and fully person-centred.

We look forward to sharing highlights from our Sardinia adventure in future articles throughout the year.
